PIM Test System Makes
On-Site Measurements
The self-calibrating and battery-operated PIM 20 Test System measures passive intermodulation (PIM) distortion with a sensitivity range from -80 dBc to -155 dBc. It generates two simultaneous RF frequencies with amplitudes from 20 to 33 dBm and determines the level of PIM resulting from network connectors, cables, filters, splitters, and antennas.
Because of oxidation, contamination, temperature and wind effects, mechanical forces, or poor material choice, these passive components don’t always behave linearly as intended. They can produce PIM that generates sufficient interference in a network to cause dropped calls.
With the Test System PIM 20, an operator can read the
measurement value directly from the display, view the LED bar
that turns red if too high a PIM value is measured, or connect
the PIM 20 to a device such as a walkie-talkie to listen
remotely if PIM values change when altering components.
